Almost £400,000 was donated by the Friends to RUH in 2024. Every single penny was thanks to donations, customers in our café and shop, and gifts in Wills.
Our grants fund what is outside the scope of the NHS.
And here are just a handful of examples from a truckload of grants:
- Ultrasound machines for the Breast Cancer Department
 - Improved furniture, tables and screens in the Emergency Department
 - Musical instruments and entertainment programmes for children
 - A Savi Scout machine to enable staff to locate cancerous cells more easily and comfortably for patients
 - Improved gardens as a therapeutic place for patients, families and friends

A huge thank you to everyone. As we approach our 70th Anniversary in 2027, we know patients and their families will need more support than ever, and staff wellbeing is increasingly important.
A gift in your Will
If you are keen to continue your support beyond your lifetime for the benefits of patients and staff of the RUH following in your footsteps, it would be brilliant.
Your legacy can be:
- A cash sum, whatever is affordable to you.
 - A % of what you are worth. you can leave us a % of your estate as opposed to a cash legacy if you so wish.
 - Investments. You can leave us stocks, shares or part of your pension pot or life insurance scheme.

It is your gift. Your lasting legacy. Your choice.
Your Future Gift Action
The only information needed by the person who drafts your Will is:
Our charity name: The League of Friends of the Royal United Hospitals (Bath),
And our charity registration number: 1176686
And your only decision is what affordable gift you would like to give.
Are there inheritance tax savings?
Your estate might save inheritance tax if you leave us a gift in your Will, but this is a complicated tax and might change in the future. Your gift to us is deducted before inheritance tax so a gift to us with a value of £10,000 might save your estate £4,000 inheritance tax, but please take professional advice.
If you already have a Will
A Will is easy to change either through a codicil or through contacting your solicitor.
If you do not have a Will
We can supply a list of solicitors, local to you, who regularly draft Wills.
There are some online Will writers, and we can send you a link to those which offer a service
which includes solicitor approved Wills.
Your gift takes only a little time to arrange but the outcome will last for generations
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Our legacy promises to you
Every gift in every Will can change lives but we also recognise this support is more private/personal than a donation.
When you leave a gift in your Will to The Friends of RUH, we:
- Promise to use your gift wisely
 - Realise you might want your gift used in a special way – we can arrange that
 - Recognise that those closest to you come first
 - Understand that you might have to change your mind due to a change in personal circumstances
 - Will never put pressure on you to leave us a gift in your Will
 - Will treat you and your next of kin sensitively and with respect and gratitude
